The Key to Losing Belly Fat

If you have a beer belly, or just a bulging belly, there are things you can do to cut down the fat. After all, belly fat is the worst, isn’t it? You can’t hide it behind tight jeans and you can’t distract from it with a Hawaiian style shirt. Belly fat sticks out like a shelf, muffining over the top of your jeans and bulging out of your favorite shirt.

Sure, you can use a slimmer. These stretchy shirts are great tummy tuckers. With built in contours and control tops, they suck in your stomach, bringing you down a size around the middle. The problem is that they don’t look good under every set of clothes. The shirts tend to ride up, the bathing suit ones give you MAJOR underwear lines, and the version with shorts doesn’t look good under pants. Plus, who wants to wear one more lying underneath their clothes, especially during the summer when temperatures shoot up?

Your best bet is to focus on getting rid of your belly fat through exercise, diet, sleeping, and stress relievers.

Exercise – When you exercise, belly fat tends to burn off first. So start a weekly exercise routine. All it takes is a good 30-minute aerobic workout (that includes abdominal crunches and stretching) 4 times a week. Throw in a morning jog and you have the ingredients of a great belly burn system.

Diet – Eating healthy will ensure that your belly fat does not accumulate in the future. While there is no specialty food that burns only belly fat (no matter what the latest diet trends tell you), it does help to eat a high fiber diet. This way, the food going into your mouth doesn’t stick to anything on the way out.

How to Lose Belly Fat

Stress – Stressed people eat more food. It’s a fact of life. In the common vernacular, this is called stress eating. And stress eating leads to more stomach fat (and fat everywhere else for that matter). To avoid this, find something that can distress you. Give yourself an hour a day to relax, meditate, read a book, or do something for just you. Counseling can also help, especially if your counsel comes from a friend while at your favorite store. (Just make sure it’s not a candy store.)

Sleep – And, strangely enough, sleep affects your weight in startling ways, especially when it comes to visceral fat (the fat that is internal near your bodily organs). Studies have shown that, if you sleep a full 7-8 hours per night, you will gain less visceral fat than those who slept less than 6 hours per night.

So, as you can see, there is no magic cure to ridding your body of stomach fat. What you can do is add diet, exercise, stress relievers, and extra sleep into your everyday life. That should kick-start your metabolism and help to fight the fat that flummoxes you. And if that doesn’t work, ask your doctor about other options, from metabolism boosters to gastric bypass surgery. Together, you and your doctor can come up with a plan that slims your waistline and improves your health.
